Sunday 8th July saw Polly Veazey-French competing in her first ever Middle Distance Triathlon, and in doing so earned the 3rd spot on the podium, at the British Championships held in Milton Keynes. Polly’s total time was 4 hours and 44 minutes. Polly was first out of the 1.2 mile open water swim, she ran a very strong and controlled half-marathon, recording the second fastest time, and rode really hard on the 56 mile bike section. After her initial disappointment, Polly was pleased with her Bronze medal, and lost out on the Gold, and the British Champion position, by just over four and a half minutes, in a total distance of a shade under 70 miles of continuous swimming, cycling and running.
The Gold and Silver medal winners were both sponsored athletes in an event where the quality of the bike can shave vital minutes off the time. Over the 56 miles, a 5 second lag per mile due to bike drag, can accumulate to a 5 minute deficit.
This was a fantastic achievement in her first attempt at the Middle Distance. To follow Polly’s progress please look at the website www.matlock-one.co.uk
