Polly winning the Birmingham Sprint Triathlon, 20th May 2012
Polly is aiming for the World Triathlon Championships.
Saturday 19th May saw Polly Veazey-French in action, after a long lay-off due to injury. At the British Aquathon Championships, held at Tamworth, by Birmingham Running, Athletics & Triathlon Club, Polly came 3rd in her category, beaten by a sponsored athlete who trains full time. Polly’s overall time was 31 minutes and 45 seconds. Taking just 12 minutes to swin 750 m Open Water Swim and setting a Personal Best in the 5k run of just 17 minutes and 47 seconds.
The next day, Sunday 20th May, Polly was again in action. This time winning the Birmingham Sprint Triathlon. Here Polly was 10th overal out of a field of 128 experienced competetors, placing 1st Female. Here Polly’s swim time was 12 minutes and 6 seconds her 750 m Open Water Swim, with a 5k run in 18 minutes and 21 seconds, then recording 37 minutes and 30 seconds for the final bike stage of 19.9 miles, covering each mile in just over two and a half minutes, to complete her winning outing in just 70 minutes and 51 seconds.
The following weekend, in the sweltering heat, Polly lined up on Sunday 27th May for the Shefield Half Marathon, and though her bike at present is her strongest event; she placed 3rd in a record personal time of 1 hour 24 minutes and 43 seconds; a time many male Running Club Members would be truely proud of.
Polly qualified for the Triathlon World Championships held in Budapest 2010, but was unable to raise the funds to help her compete amongst the World’s best Triathletes. This year Polly is gearing up for the World Championships.
Since Christmas 2011, Polly makes a weekly round trip cycle ride, of 50 miles to receive Sports Massage to help keep her injury free. It has taken 6 months for Polly to compete again.
